Importing
Bring writing you started elsewhere into your project.
How to import
- Open the project you want to import into.
- Choose .
- Pick the kind of file, then click Choose File & Import and select it.
The file becomes a new scene at the top level of the Manuscript, included in the final draft, and opens straight away. Its name comes from the file: the first heading of a Word or Markdown file, the first line of a text file, or a Fountain file's title. Rename it, drag it into a chapter, or split it up from there.
What you can import
| Format | Files | What's kept |
|---|---|---|
| Word Document | .docx | Headings, bold, italic and lists |
| Plain Text | .txt | Each paragraph becomes a paragraph |
| Markdown | .md, .markdown | Headings, lists, bold and italic |
| Fountain Screenplay | .fountain, .spmd | Scene headings, action and dialogue |
Older Word files (.doc), RTF and other formats can't be imported directly. Open them in a word processor and save as .docx first.
Tips
- Importing a whole book gives you one long scene. To break it into chapters, select text and cut it into new scenes, or import one chapter at a time.
