Snapshots & Bookmarks
Snapshots let you try a big rewrite without fear. Bookmarks get you back to the scene you keep returning to.
Snapshots
A snapshot is a saved copy of one document at one moment. Snapshots live inside your project file.
Taking a snapshot
- (Ctrl+Shift+S) saves one straight away. The status bar confirms it.
- To give it a name, use , type a label such as “before cutting the subplot”, and click Save Snapshot.
- Ravenburst also takes an automatic snapshot, labeled Auto-save, every 50 saves of a document.
Browsing and restoring
lists the open document's snapshots with their label, word count and date. Click one to preview its beginning.
- Restore puts the snapshot's text back, after asking. If your current text is different, Ravenburst first saves it as a snapshot called Before restore, so restoring never loses anything.
- Delete removes a snapshot, after asking.
Snapshots are kept until you delete them, or until you permanently delete their document.
Snapshots are stored in the project file, so they don't protect against losing the file itself. For that, see Backups.
Bookmarks
- (Ctrl+D) bookmarks the open document; press it again to remove the bookmark. The bookmark button above the editor does the same.
- lists them. Click one to open it, or × to remove it.
- Bookmarks are saved in the project, so they're still there the next time you open it. Each project has its own.
