Targets & Statistics
Goals for the whole book and for today, numbers about your manuscript, and a record of the days you've written.
Word counts
- The status bar shows Doc (the open document) and the project's count. Select some text to see (Selected: N) too.
- Click the project count, or choose , for a chapter-by-chapter breakdown: the total that will be compiled, your target, and what's excluded from compile.
- Turn either count on or off in .
- To type the current count into your text, use .
Project Targets
Open (Ctrl+Alt+T).
- Manuscript Target: the length you're aiming for. It counts the chapters, scenes, prologue and epilogue that are included in the final draft. The bar turns green when you reach it. It is saved in the project, and is the same number as Target Word Count in Project Settings (the Inspector with no document selected).
- Session Target: words for today. Only words you add count; deleting doesn't take them away. The count starts again at midnight (your computer's time), or when you click ↺. It's saved on this computer and shared by all your projects.
Leave a target empty, or set it to 0, to hide its bar. Each document can also have its own target, set in the Inspector; its progress shows in the status bar while that document is open.
Statistics
Open . Switch between Compiled only (what will go into an export) and All documents.

Writing History
Open . Each project keeps its own record of how many words you added each day. Nothing needs setting up.
- Current Streak: days in a row with words written. Not having written yet today doesn't break it; the streak only ends once a whole day passes without words.
- Total Written: all the words you've added, across every day recorded.
- Days Recorded: the number of days you wrote.
- A bar chart of your last 30 writing days, and a log of each day's words and the manuscript's total that day.
